Beginner Skateboarding Lessons for Kids in Edmonton
We specialize in working with young skaters — typically ages 5 and up — who are just getting started. Our kids’ skateboarding lessons in Edmonton focus on the basics: how to stand on a board, push, turn, stop safely, and build the confidence to keep going.
Every lesson is age-appropriate and progress-paced, meaning your child never gets thrown into the deep end. We meet kids where they’re at and celebrate every small win along the way.
What kids learn in beginner lessons:
- Proper stance and foot position
- Pushing and riding comfortably
- Basic turning and carving
- Safe falling and how to bail
- Intro to ramps and skatepark etiquette
- Beginner tricks (ollies & drop-ins)
Lessons take place at accessible skateparks across Edmonton, with options that work for families coming from St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Spruce Grove, and Leduc.

First Push: Our 4-Week Beginner Program for Kids (Ages 6–10)
If your child has never stepped on a skateboard — or only tried it once — First Push is exactly where they should start. This 4-week beginner skateboarding program for kids in Edmonton and Greater Edmonton Area is purpose-built for true beginners aged 6 to 10, with small class sizes, certified coaches, and a structured curriculum that builds week over week.
It runs indoors at Foam Fighters (9767 45 Ave NW, Edmonton), so there are no weather cancellations and no outside pressure — just your kid, a supportive group of peers, and coaches who genuinely love helping kids ride.

- Week 2 — Picking up and putting down their board, and learning to turn

Adult Skateboarding Lessons — It’s Never Too Late to Learn
Think skateboarding is just for kids? Think again. We run adult beginner skateboarding lessons in Edmonton for people of all ages and with zero prior experience. Whether you’re 20 or 50, learning to skate as an adult is 100% doable — and honestly, pretty rewarding.
Adult lessons are low-pressure and practical. We can skip the tricks and focus on getting you comfortable on a board so you can cruise parks, paths, and pavement with confidence.
What adult beginners can expect:
- One-on-one or small group instruction (started our first adult group this June!)
- No judgment — seriously, we’ve seen it all
- Practical skills you’ll actually use
- Guidance on gear, board setup, and safety equipment
- Flexible scheduling to fit your life
We’ve taught adults from across the Edmonton region — including folks making the drive from Spruce Grove, Leduc, and Sherwood Park — and it’s one of our favourite things to do.
Serving Edmonton and the Surrounding Communities
Project Rad is based in Edmonton, Alberta, but we regularly work with students from across the Greater Edmonton Area. If you’re in any of the following areas, we’d love to have you come skate with us:
- St. Albert — A short drive puts you at some of Edmonton’s best beginner-friendly skateparks, or we can potentially even come to you!
- Sherwood Park — East end families are always welcome; we can discuss convenient skatepark meetup spots (most likely Capilano or Kaskitayo)
- Spruce Grove — Easy access to Edmonton’s west-side parks means a simple commute for a great lesson (we are also doing beginner lessons this summer on Mondays – here)
- Leduc — South Edmonton skateparks are accessible and well-suited for beginner lessons (Kaskitayo)
Not sure which location works best for you? Get in touch, and we’ll figure it out together.

Why Choose Project Rad for Skateboarding Lessons?
There are a lot of ways to “learn” to skate — YouTube videos, asking a friend, jumping in at the park, and hoping for the best. But structured instruction from someone who actually knows how to teach makes a massive difference, especially for beginners. Participants tend to learn more than twice as fast with guided lessons!
Here’s what sets Project Rad apart:
- Experienced instructors who are passionate about skateboarding and even more passionate about teaching it
- Beginner-first approach — we never assume prior knowledge or rush the fundamentals
- Safety focus — we teach proper protective gear use and safe technique from day one
- Fun, inclusive environment — skateboarding should feel welcoming for everyone, kids and adults alike
- Flexible formats — private lessons, small groups, and summer camps available

What to Bring to Your First Lesson
New to skating? Here’s what we recommend showing up with:
- Helmet (required — a bike helmet works fine to start)
- Knee pads and wrist guards (highly recommended for beginners)
- Closed-toe shoes with a flat sole (skate shoes are ideal but not required)
- A skateboard — if you don’t have one yet, we have extra high-quality boards to borrow
- Water and sunscreen for outdoor sessions
Don’t have gear yet? No problem — reach out before your first lesson, and we’ll point you in the right direction.
